Mr. Hutchins is a registered patent attorney and an associate in Townsend’s Litigation Practice Group. His practice focuses on patent litigation matters pertaining to computer hardware and software, including computer networks and communications, relational databases, and data security and encryption.
Prior to joining Townsend, Mr. Hutchins externed with the Honorable Socrates P. Manoukian of the Superior Court of California for Santa Clara County, and served as Managing Editor of the Santa Clara Computer & High Technology Law Journal.
Representative Cases
Textscape, LLC v. Adobe Systems, Inc. Represented Adobe in a patent infringement action brought by Textscape alleging infringement of patent claims relating to text formatting. The District Court granted summary judgment, finding all claims of Textscape’s asserted patent invalid, and entered a final judgment in favor of Adobe.
Oracle Corporation and Oracle U.S.A., Inc. v. Parallel Networks, LLC. Represented Oracle in an action for declaratory judgment that Oracle's middleware and database products do not infringe any valid and enforceable claim of Parallel Networks' patents relating to dynamic web pages. The District Court granted summary judgment of noninfringement on all claims asserted by Parallel Networks and entered a final judgment in favor of Oracle.
Forterra Systems, Inc. v. Avatar Factory Corp., et al. Represented Forterra in a patent infringement action involving 3-D Internet virtual world technology. Case settled on favorable terms.
